Resumen : El objetivo de esta tesis es presentar dos obras de música minimalista para cuarteto de cuerdas...
Descripción : The objective of this thesis is to compose two pieces of minimal music for string quartet. These pieces are based on the analysis of the songs In C by Terry Riley and Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield. In the first chapter, we will find a brief introduction to minimalism as an artistic movement in all its phases painting, sculpture, and music. A musical analysis of the main characteristics will be perform, for this, we will go through the most representative composers of this musical genre, up to the artists Terry Riley, and Mike Oldfield, on whose characteristic sound this thesis is based on. In the second chapter, an analysis method will be applied, and a specific version of each song is to be chosen, in order to extract the requirements for the composition. The melodic patterns from the song In C, the melody from the song Tubular Bells and its surroundings will be analyzed. The tools extracted from this analysis will be subjected to a comparison, so later on this tools can be used in the composition of the new musical pieces. In the third chapter, the tools extracted from the previous analysis, will be applied to the composition of the musical themes When Jekyl Meets Hyde (a song with double personality based on the analysis of In C); and, Lilith s Aquelarre (a composition based on the analysis of the melody of Tubular Bells). The use of these tools will be justified by graphics.
