Descripción : Dental erosion is damage to the structure of the enamel and / or dentin by the action of acids coming from the internal or external body sources. Objective: To evaluate salivary pH after ingestion of the three most consumed industrialized beverage by students of UDLA Dentistry School. Material and Methods: After a survey of 200 UDLA dentistry students, were identified the three most consumed industrialized beverage, it are, in descending order of preference: tea, artificial juice and soda to evaluate salivary pH variations, a clinical study of an experimental cross-sectional was applied, with 75 volunteer students. Drinks that were chosen are: Coca Cola®, Fuzetea®, the Valle® (orange), and measurements were performed with a pH (MN 2-9) paper and with a pH meter (Martini Instruments). For each group, three samples were taken: initial salivary pH, without any drink intake; immediately after intake of the beverage; 15 min after ingestion of the drink. Coca Cola®, Fuzetea®, the Valle® (orange). Results: Most acid beverage was Coca Cola ® with a 2.5 pH; the other two were similar to each other with a value of 3. There is no statistical difference between measurement methods. The three beverages decreased significantly salivary pH immediately after consumption, being Del Valle Naranja® the one wich altered in more intensity the salivary pH (pH 5.4), followed by Coca Cola® (pH 6.1) , Fuzetea® (pH 6), the pH at 15 min after consumption of beverages returned to baseline. Conclusion: the three evaluated drinks descend salivary pH significantly, being Del Valle Naranja® which produces major changes. However these values return to normal within 15 min after intake.
