Descripción : Cultural-artisan Center in Rumiñahui canton is about a readjustment on a patrimonial house located in the Sangolqui city colonial center. After evaluating the house conditions it was decided which elements to preserve, to recycle and to discard. The project objective is to offer the local population a useful place where they can develop different cultural local activities such as goldsmith, cabinetmaking, knitting and painting. An architectonic program was made in base of these needs and there were set out four workshops, exhibition halls for handicrafts and paintings, a small conference room, outdoor areas, a cafeteria and a boutique to buy the art samples. A concept based in the geography and history of the place was generated to design the areas of the Project. The sacred Incas cross was used as for the shape and meaning of it. The Chakana is a symbol that refers to the sun, its shape is of a squared cross with twelve endings. The geometric shapes of the cross were taken to be used in the symmetrical distribution of the areas, for impact elements, in materials and reflected on the furniture. Stone coating were used with a warm colors palette, combined with neutral surfaces to highlight the textures and bring off a cozy atmosphere. Environment conservation design guidelines were handled in order to cause the least possible environmental impact, this was made through the selection of ecofriendly materials, rainwater harvesting and the use of efficient electricity.
