Descripción : This research focuses on the current situation and problems of child marriage and early unions in Ecuador. Child marriage is considered when this union occurs between two people under the age of 18, or at least one of them is a minor. This practice is considered harmful by international organizations such as UNICEF or the ONU, since in the union the rights of minors are violated and, above all, girls are affected. According to the Population and Housing Census carried out in Ecuador, in 2010, “the regions with the highest percentage of marriages and / or free unions in adolescent women between 12 and 17 years old, are the Coast and the Amazon: Esmeraldas (15 percent), Los Ríos (14 percent), Guayas (13.7 percent), Manabí (12.4 percent) and Orellana (13 percent). With a lower percentage are the provinces of the Sierra: Imbabura (4.2 percent), Carchi (4.4 percent), and Azuay and Chimborazo (4.6 percent, each)”. As evidenced by the figures, child marriage occurs in Ecuador and to stop it, two years ago, the Civil Code was amended so that people under 18 can dont get married, regardless of whether they have the consent of their parents. For the change in legal matters, the present investigation seeks to reflect the current situation of early unions, the current regulations, the dynamics and sociocultural practices that are maintained in the country. The project considers concepts such as gender, sex, marriage as a social institution, its religious, economic and cultural implications, as well as crossings with inequitable gender roles. A qualitative methodological design was used applying techniques such as interview and observation.
