Resumen : Esta investigación periodística aborda las distintas opciones que tienen las personas para ser padres y madres en Ecuador, así como las regulaciones y prácticas vigentes en cada una de ellas...
Descripción : This research addresses, from a journalistic perspective, the different options that people have to be fathers and mothers in Ecuador, as well as the regulations and practices in force in each one of them. The fertility rate in the country has decreased with respect to past years. According to average figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), between 1975 and 1979, women of childbearing age had 5.4 children. In the period 2007-2012, the figure decreased to 3 children. One of the causes are fertility problems, which has led to the search for other alternatives to be parents, such as assisted reproduction or adoption treatments. The first option does not have a regulatory entity within the country, something that affects the correct practice of this method and its accessibility due to the high costs. On the other hand, adoption is regulated by the Civil Code, and by the Code of childhood and adolescence jointly with the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion. But in this case the problems have to do with the difficult accessibility and discrimination that still exists to adopt. The research project addresses issues such as: the family, assisted reproduction, artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood, adoption, among others. The research proposes a methodological design that starts from a qualitative approach and considers the interview as the main research technique.
