Descripción : There is a significant increase in the number of people who come to the specialist to perform orthodontics, these patients may experience some degree of pain during treatment; Numerous studies suggest the prescription of NSAIDs as firstline drugs to alleviate this symptomatology, whose use in this field is hardly appreciated. The main purpose of this study was to determine the use of analgesics by orthodontists in the city of Quito during orthodontic treatment for pain management that does not involve orthopedic disjunction mechanics or complementary surgical procedures, and to identify him or the analgesic drugs most used in orthodontics. Through the application of a virtual form, a sample of 66 specialists members of the SOOP (Society of Orthodontics and Orthopedics of Pichincha) was obtained in November 2017, which was collected in real time. The results indicate that acetaminophen is prescribed as a first-choice analgesic after appointments due to its analgesia at the central level and its broad pharmacological safety. Previous prescription and the use of Celecoxib or Naproxen Sodium are still not widely used. In conclusion, different drugs and analgesic doses are used only after the appointments taking into account that women and adolescents are, at their discretion, those who have a greater tolerance to pain.
