| Descripción : | In Ecuador, starting from 2007, the government has limited the interest rate over the loans granted by the financial entities. This paper works with the hypothesis of existence of rationing over consume credit by the regulation on interest rates during the period of 2007 to 2015. Before the studied period, the interest rates where rounding 30 percent, and from 2007, they decreased to less tan 25percent, with the objective of regulate the bank usury and promote more consume loans in the country. This paper permits, using an econometric model of simultaneous equations, demonstrate the existence of a demand excess of consume credit while the credit supply has decrease during the period of 2007-2015. One of the most important reason for this market failure to happen hasbeen the active interest rate tops regulation which has move from 25 percent at thebeginning of the regulation in august of 2007 to 16percent in june of 2015. |
