| Descripción : | The essay tries to show that indefinite reelection is counterproductive to democracy and the republican principle. In Latin America there are precedents of presidentialism which carries a strong tendency for the president remain in power. The mechanism to consolidate authoritarian projects has been the indefinite re-election, which affects the principle of alternation essential element of the concept of republic and democracy, just as decreases the participation of the political opposition. Countries like Venezuela, Nicaragua and Ecuador are the new wave of presidents reelection seeking remain in power, ignoring the democratic and republican principles. It is recommended that the executive be reelected only once having a period, to prevent the candidate - president abuses his institutional position and state resources to gain advantages in the race |
