| Descripción : | This article will analyze energy in South America, with a special emphasis on energy integration in the Union of South American Nations (USAN). In addition it will introduce the context under which this organization is created in relation to energy. In this sense,this article has developed a theoretical review of international relations, under which has been possible to understand the dynamics of interaction energy in the region; where concepts such as governance, the complex interdependence,security and development are interrelated in what concerns to regional energy integration, showing its multidimensionality. Moreover, to understand the USAN in terms of energy it has been necessary to make an analysis of how energy in terms of integration arises in the region; stressing processes with more experience in what concerns energy integration. Therefore, Ihave chosen the case of OLADE, CAN (from the late nineties) and Mercosur; inthis sense, on the one handI willemphasizesome of its mechanisms of integration and in the other hand thecontexts across their initiatives arise. Additionally, with this in mine it is more clear to analyze why it is important the factor of energy in thissub-region and more specifically around the creation of USAN. Besides, the article will presentsome difficulties in energy environment, where the Initiative for the Integration of South AmericanInfrastructure (IIRSA), emphasizedone of its main weaknesses. |
