Resumen : El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar un balanceado en base a pasta de maracuyá en terneros y terneras de biotipo lechero bajo un programa de destete precoz de 60 días, en el cantón Quero, provincia de Tungurahua…
Descripción : The objective of this study was to evaluate a feed based on passion fruit pulp in dairy calves and heifers under a program of early weaning at 60 days, at Quero, in Tungurahua province. 24 animals (12 females and 12 males) were selected and divided into 4 treatments. The treatments were: T1, females fed with commercial feed; T2 males fed with commercial feed; T3 females fed with experimental feed and T4 males fed with experimental feed. Each treatment had six replicates. The variables analized were: initial weight, live weight, weight gain, feed intake and height at the withers. Data was registered at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 days into the experiment. In addition, an economic analysis of treatments was performed. The variables, body weight, weight gain, feed intake and height at the withers for treatment, sex, balanced and interaction sex x balanced were not statistically different (p> 0.05). With the exception of feed intake at 7 days, there were statistical differences (p>0.05). The costs of T3 and T4 (0.25 to 0.30 USD / kg) were the cheapest when compared with T1 and T2 (0.42 to 0.38 USD / kg), that generating the greatest economic benefit. In conclusion the experimental feed based on passion fruit pulp can be used as a substitute for commercial feed because it does not affect the variables evaluated, and also for being the most economical feed.
