Descripción : | Sterilization and disinfection abrasive rubber tips are a key factor to prevent transmission of pathogenic microorganisms to susceptible people. As the availability of moist heat equipment is not always available in rural areas, the use of chemical methods of sterilization and disinfection becomes a good alternative for handling semi-critical instruments. Therefore, this study sought to determine the most effective disinfection chemical method for contaminated abrasive rubber tips with Streptococcus mutans. The study was conducted by contaminating 22 tips (per event and duplicate) sterile rubber abrasive with Streptococcus mutans in five events (110 tips in total and reused) which polished resin hubs with a sterile pendant micromotor. Subsequently, the tips were immersed in three different treatments, sodium hypochlorite (0.25 percent, 0.50 percent, 0.75 percent), glutaraldehyde (1 percent, 2 percent, 3 percent) and hydrogen peroxide (3 percent, 6 percent, 9 percent), for 10, 20 and 30 minutes respectively. The bacterial recovery from rubber tips was carried out by dipping them in BHI broth at 37 ° C for 18-24 h and then cultured on selective TYS20B medium. The positive control was the use of moist heat (autoclave) according to manufacturer's recommendations and the negative control was immersion in distilled water for 30 minutes. |
