Resumen : Objetivo: Describir la aplicación de aloe vera como desensibilizante post blanqueamiento dental en el consultorio...
Descripción : Objective: Describe the application of aloe vera as a post-whitening desensitizer in the office. Materials and methods: the present study shows a report of a clinical case where volunteers where selected under exclusion and inclusion criteria. Two dental whitening sessions were developed applying hydrogen peroxide at 35% (Whiteness HP, FGM, Joinvile, Brasil) for 45 minutes in 15 minutes intervals under all security parameters where the sensitivity was evaluated with a quantitative scale from 0 to 10, and a qualitative scale with parameters of: 1. There is no sensitivity, 2. Light, 3. Moderate, 4. Considerable or 5. Severe, after that, desensitizer agent AL (Aloe Vera) was applied in the vestibular face of the treated tooth previously treated with the clarifying agent for a period of 10 minutes; later it was removed and the sensitivity was reevaluated. Results: during the first whitening session, there was no sensitivity type in the moment of the procedure or later. Nevertheless, in the second session the sensitivity was describes as light with a score of 2 up 10 immediately by the time the procedure finished. During the first 24 hours, there were three sensitivity moments between light and moderate with a maximum score of 5 up10. Color variation was observed in 4-tone incisor teeth and 5-tone canine teeth with the VITAPAN EASY SHADE scale. Conclusions: it can be concluded that the application of Aloe Vera after dental whitening as desensitizer agent has no change in the reduction of the post operatory sensitivity. Recommendations: it is recommended to implement AL as desensitizer agent in a wider sample to discern its efficiency, and study the aloe vera in comparison with other desensitizer agents.
