dc.description | Objective: To determine the differences between body mass index, lipid, glycemic and hematological profile among air and ground staff in Ecuador in the last 7 years. Type of study: Transversal descriptive clinical study. Sampling: We used the entire database that is based in the civil aviation direction of Ecuador from 2009 to 2016 which includes men and women pilots, flight attendants, cabin crew, ground mechanics and air traffic control over 18 years Who had at least two clinical controls. Sample size: A total of 1211 participants were included in the study. Variables to be measured: Age, sex, weight, height, body mass index (BMI), glucose, hemoglobin, hematocrit, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL and type of profession. Study methodology and materials: We analyzed all information in the database of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) which contains information on the measured variables, which were analyzed with descriptive statistics. Results: Working exposed to the cabin environment is not an important factor in the staff acclimatization process. However, the results showed that cabin staff had a better health condition than ground personnel, which showed that overweight (BMI: 23.9 vs 26.03 p: 0.001) and the lipid profile among the mechanics group versus their Drivers is altered after several years of exposure to the same working conditions. Conclusions: The data presented demonstrate that intermittent exposure to the pressurized environment of the air car does not cause detectable functional alterations in men or women. | en |
