Introduction: The present project focuses on evaluating the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among the health personnel of the Enrique Garcés General Hospital, in the aforementioned specialties. Burnout syndrome (SB) has been considered an important problem for a long time in what is professional life in our current era, which the disease has entered more frequently during the last decade, so it has generated a great interest, not only within the scientific community, but also in the governmental, administrative, and educational institutional sphere. In our country, several studies were carried out in some hospitals in the city of Quito, in which the prevalence has been increasing during the last decades, being the Eugenio Espejo Hospital with the highest prevalence in 2011 (39.7 percent) regarding this disease. In 2002, a study was carried out at the Hospital Carlos Andrade Marín on the SB, in which a prevalence of 42.5 percent was presented in the resident doctors of that hospital, being one of the highest prevalences reported in Ecuador Objectives: To define the prevalence of Burnout syndrome in the health personnel of the Enrique Garcés General Hospital, in the surgical specialties, clinics, emergency and intensive care unit, between the months of June - July 2020 and its risk factors that can be involved. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study will be carried out with the information obtained from the hospital regarding the health personnel who work during the established study time. In addition, surveys will be carried out to assess whether the health professional presents the syndrome, with which that we will evaluate social, economic, labor and personal factors that may affect the person under study. Likewise, the respective literature on this syndrome will be reviewed both nationally and internationally. Results: A prevalence of around 70 percent was found in the components of depersonalization and emotional exhaustion, which is high, this disease is affecting younger professionals and especially nursing personnel. Conclusions: Based on the results of this research, an action plan at the levels of decision and hospital management is essential and urgent to control the high prevalence of Burnout in health professionals, especially nurses, who apparently see more affected by the disease. The permanent evaluation of occupational and mental health aspects must be organized and mandatory, in order to achieve true primary and secondary prevention.en
