Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of self-medication of analgesics by students of the Dental School of Udla during the 2018-2 period. Identify the most frequent factors associated with the self-medication of analgesics. Recognize what type of analgesics are the most used by dentistry students. Materials and methods: Voluntary participation of dentistry students of Udla. They will be given an informed consent. A self-medication survey will be carried out to 268 Udla dentistry students in a random manner, which was validated by the University of Salamanca through a first format with pilot questions to 4th year Pharmacy students, who received a pre-induction about self-medication before filling out the questionnaire, after this, incorrectly formulated questions were eliminated, or those that had a misinterpretation, similar questions, among others, in this way a second pilot survey was obtained with the corrections due and proceeded to perform again the survey to the same students, obtaining good results, so they proceeded to validate it. Statistical analysis and tabulation of the results using the Excel spreadsheet of the Microsoft Office for Windows Program and statistical significance between variables using the Chi square program. Results: Of the total number of respondents, 93% self-medicated versus 7% who reported not having performed this practice. The source of information used when requesting a drug without a prescription was the pharmacist with 43%, followed by the doctor, 28%. 29% self-medicated due to menstrual cramps, due to 68.66% of women surveyed. The vast majority of respondents certify taking ibuprofen in 47.01%, followed by 35.82% taking paracetamol. Conclusions: Thanks to the study, it was observed that students with careers related to the Health Sciences tend to self-medicate and give advice on self-medication with greater incidence due to the knowledge they acquire within the classrooms. The reason that led the students to make the decision to self-medicate was the presence of mild symptoms which had already been suffered before, the main ones being: colic, flu and headache; for which the most used drugs were acetaminophen and ibuprofen, drugs with greater diffusion both on the internet and on television. Half of respondents do not know the correct indications of medicines, so their source of information when self-medication is the pharmacist, since it requires scientific information and is quick and easy accessibility. The great majority obtained the desired therapeutic effect, and of them a minority claimed to have presented adverse effects due to self-medication, with dizziness being the main sign. The saving of time is the most important benefit for respondents when making the decision to self-medicate.en
