Bacteria of the genus Bacillus spp. have shown to have antagonistic capacity against other microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria. Different isolates of Bacillus subtilis are used as a potent biocontrol agent of diseases in plants due to their ability to produce antimicrobial compounds. Some of these compounds interact beneficially with the plant and against different types of pathogens. Previous studies conducted with Bacillus subtilis Cptx S2-1 demonstrated that this strain efficiently controls Colletotrichum acutatum, which causes anthracnose in the crop and seeds of lupine (Lupinus mutabilis). This potential control of the isolate is mainly due to the activity of different types of lipopeptides grouped in the Fengicinas families – Iturinas with a high antifungal activity – and of the Surfactin family with surfactant activity. On this basis, the objective of this study was to identify the production patterns of the antifungal lipopeptides produced by Bacillus subtilis Cptx S2 1 in a bioreactor, and to characterize the genes involved in the production of lipopeptides by amplification of sequences by PCR. To meet this objective, the production of lipopeptides was first analyzed in relation to the amount of total biomass and endospores in a commercial medium (MOLP) and another low-cost medium (HS40-MOLP2) during the different stages of bacterial growth. The identification of production patterns of different antifungal lipopeptides of the isolate by high-resolution protein-specific thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) and autobiography for antifungal activity (HPTLC + C. acutatum) followed by analysis of gene expression by PCR. The results obtained showed that both the production of antifungal lipopeptides and their antifungal activity are related to the growth phase, especially the production of endospores. A high correlation was found between the production of endospores and the increase in concentrations of lipopeptides in stationary phase. All these results could serve as a basis for the optimization of industrial scale production processes of bio-inputs from this microorganism and its use for the control of the anthracnose of the cunt caused by C. acutatum.en
