dc.description | The aim of the study was to analyze the analgesic efficacy of diclofenac vs. dexamethasone for the control of pain and inflammation after performing tooth extractions, by means of a bibliographic review. The method used for its realization was a collection of relevant information on the proposed topic, according to the latest scientific articles published from 2012 until now, which should contain clinical cases that describe the diagnosis, preoperative treatment, procedure performed, and pharmacological alternatives for the treatment of postextraction tooth pain. The results of the revision of the review indicate that the administration as a pre-operative treatment of dexamethasone of 8 mg V.O. significantly reduce inflammation and pain, slightly more than diclofenac administered as a pre-operative treatment, while post-operative diclofenac administration considerably reduces pain due to its mechanism of action. The oral or intramuscular administration of dexamethasone is effective for the control of pain, edema and trismus after a dental surgical treatment, but must be accompanied by analgesics (NSAIDs) and antibiotics as post-operative treatment. | en |
