The depenalization of homosexuality in 1997 was the most important mileststone for the LGBT community in Ecuador, which counted on the constant and collaborative work of the first activist groups. The set objective of this research was to make visible the current state of LGBT activism in Ecuador and identify its accomplishments and issues in the last decade. The creation of a multimedia plataforma, which utilizes videos, images, audio and infographic material, can unite the voices of the main groups and social activists that have been part of the political scene since the beginnings of LGBT activism and that have had social impact. This discussion also includes other groups that have joined in the fight for human and civil rights for the LGBT community. In the topics dealt with, this dicussion incially contexualizes the history of LGBT activisim in the country and its main milestones in order to subsequently show the accomplishments in this last decade in relationship with the administration in office at the time of said milestones. On a different note, this discussion addresses the main internal and external issues of the groups in addition to the causes that provoked the cessation of a united effort amongst different groups. The current status of activism in Ecuador is also discusses. Finally, this discussion illustrates other forms of activism and new faces that, independently and collectively, produce social impact in a reflective and critical manner. This research concludes that, both by coincidence and because of political strategy, the search limelight and the division of activist groups have produced obstacles that obscure the progress of claiming LGBTI rights in Ecuador. The state, being a social mediator, should guarantee full rights, not just as political strategies created due to pressure from global circumstances, but rather as actual political action in favor of citizens that encourage the inclusion of the realities of these individuals in the daily social dialogue. In addition, evidence demonstrates that there are other, newer forms of activism that are far from looking for public recognition and tolerance and rather demand human and civil rights.en
