To evaluate how the varieties of oil palm (Traditional and hybrid) affect the mycorrhizal behavior in La Concordia, Ecuador; the following objectives were set: To determine how the five oil palm materials (Taisha x Calabar, Taisha x Angola, Coari x La Mé, Elaeis guineensis INIAP and Elaeis guineensis Ilegitima) affect the mycorrhizal population in La Concordia-Ecuador. To establish how the physical-chemical parameters of the soil influence the mycorrhizal colonization and population. The methodology used to determine the mycorrhizal colonization was that of staining, and to estimate the mycorrhizal population the wet sieving method was used. In addition, soil characterization was carried out with the following parameters: pH, texture, potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus, organic matter and electrical conductivity. Using statistical ANOVA analysis one way, it was found that the traditional palm Elaeis guineensis Ilegitima presents average values of mycorrhizal population higher than the rest of palm materials under study, as well as the average values in the forest. In relation to the influence of soil parameters analyzed with population and mycorrhizal colonization, Pearson correlations and multiple regressions were performed. The results of the correlation indicate that, for mycorrhizal population, soil parameters that affect its behavior are mainly potassium, pH, electrical conductivity and soil texture. Whereas for the colonization the factor that influences is the content of organic matter in an inverse relation. From the regression study the parameters clay, potassium and electrical conductivity explain 76 percent of the variability of the mycorrhizal population. For colonization organic matter is the only parameter that accounts for 54 percent of its variability.en
