dc.descriptionThe aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of temporomandibular joint alterations in the Metropolitan Police of Quito. The result of the Prevalence of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders in the Metropolitan Police of Quito is 94.4 percent. According to the severity, the Mild dysfunction is the major with 93.1 percent, D. Moderate with 4.2 percent and D. Severe with 0.6 percent. The female group presents mild dysfunction in 94.18 percent. Meanwhile, the male group had 92.7 percent. People aged 19 to 29 years have mild dysfunction of 91.44 percent, moderate dysfunction of 3, 94 percent and severe dysfunction of 0.65 percent. Individuals aged 30 to 39 years showed mild dysfunction of 95, 03 percent, moderate dysfunction of 3, 72 percent and severe dysfunction of 0.62 percent. People 40 to 56 years of age have mild temporomandibular joint dysfunction of 91.48 percent and moderate dysfunction of 6.38 percent. The left click or noise is 35.6 percent and right joint noise is 28.3 percent. The percentage of tooth loss is 43.1 percent, dental malocclusion is 43.1 percent, bruxism is 62.2 percent, and people with dental prostheses 16.7 percent and people with third molars is 35.8 percent. The conclusion of the study is that the etiology of temporomandibular disorders is multifactorial. The difficulty of opening the mouth and ear or temporomandibular joint pain are associated with severe dysfunction. Noises in the temporomandibular joints when chewing or when opening the mouth are associated with moderate dysfunction. Pain and muscle fatigue, headache and neck pain or torticollis are associated with severe and moderate dysfunction. Education for the population will reduce dental and joint problems.en
