dc.description | Cerebral Palsy (CP) is characterized by alterations in movement and posture. These changes have an impact on activities such as walking, language, chewing and swallowing. In particular, swallowing causes a high risk of nutritional problems due to its impact on food (García and Restrepo, 2010). Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of orofacial rehabilitation in children with CP who have swallowing and chewing problems due to sialorrhea. Materials and Methods: Sixteen participants (men and women, aged 8 to 17 years) with medical diagnosis of CP, accompanied by swallowing problems, chewing and sialorrhea, were divided into two groups of 8 people each. One control group (CG) with no intervention applied, and another experimental group (EG) with an orofacial rehabilitation program (for 9 weeks, 4 / week), which consisted of stimulation of the musculature of Cheeks, gums and tongue; Activation of mastication and deglutination reflex. Sialorrhea (intensity and frequency), swallowing mastication and orofacial musculature were evaluated before and after the intervention. Ver archivo adjunto… | en |
