The following final degree project displays the study of the state of the art about the remote sensing in Ecuador. The project aims to gather data that contributes to the development of the project “Implementation of a Prototype of a Remote Sensing System” being held by the Universidad de Las Americas, UDLA. The current investigation is based on definitions and technical analysis regarding projects that have been already performed in Ecuador. The following objectives have been considered to pursue a correct track: a) To define origins, conceptions, characteristics, elements, and kinds of Remote Sensing b) To describe technically the components of the principal remote sensing systems that have been developed in Ecuadorian institutions of higher education and Public Centers of Investigation. c) To identify and to describe the block diagrams of the Remote Sensing systems employed in Ecuador regarding the capture and obtainment of any sort of information. d) To formulate results and learning opportunities from the analyzed remote sensing projects, making emphasis on those that are currently active. In order to meet the objectives, a historical research was performed based on projects that have been already implemented in Ecuador. Also, credible and relevant information was gathered in order to build a reliable background for the present thesis. Finally, we concluded that the importance and benefit of the Remote Sensing projects executed in Ecuador involve direct social development and national safety regarding environmental conditions such as floods, volcanic activity, forest fires, traffic, and ichthyology search among others. The main reason of such likely scope is that it is possible to employ several kinds of sensors within a single platform, which also involves reducing costs and runtimes.en
