dc.description | Rurality represents a space in which the processes of democratization of power converge; a space within which women and women leaders from Rural Parish Boards assert their role in government as they attempt to rebuild models for governance, which fail to be inclusive and equitable. This research paper seeks to analyze the development, the progress made and the achievements of the Ecuadorian Rural Parish Board’s Women’s’ Association; organization which represents a platform for the empowerment and the exercise of local power for women in the country’s rural sectors. The content of this investigation is laid out in chapters. The first chapter describes the background, the problem posed, the objectives, the scope, and the methodological and practical justification of this project. Subsequently, the second chapter deals with the theoretical justification, addressing feminist constructivism, collective action, decentralization and local power. The third chapter describes the formation and development of the Ecuadorian Rural Parish Board’s Women’s’ Association and analyzes the impact of its practices. Finally, the fourth chapter presents conclusions resulting from this study..
