Objective: To evaluate the degree of postoperative sensitivity after direct restoration with different adhesive protocols. Material and Methods: This clinical experimental randomized blind study, evaluated 25 volunteers who were applied 50 class I and II restoration, using two types of adhesive systems: conventional simplified adhesive and self- etching adhesive systems. The degree of postoperative sensitivity was evaluated the next day and seven days after restoration. The intensity of postoperative sensitivity was recorded using questionnaires which include the VAS scale, five- point scale, and type of pain. The results of the data were statistically analyzed with chi- square test (p smaller than 0.05) and Fisher's exact test. Results: It was observed that only 3 out of 25 patients evaluated reported having postoperative sensitivity when using conventional adhesive system; and only 1 patient at using self- etching adhesive systems. Postoperative sensitivity completely disappeared the next day. The pain was spontaneous for two patients and for the other two was just at facing an interaction with cold and at chewing. Conclusion: Postoperative sensitivity is not a common symptom for both adhesive systems evaluated; however the simplified conventional one showed higher sensitivity than the selfetching adhesive systems.en
