dc.descriptionPeriodontal disease is a significant risk factor to trigger a pre term birth, it is known that the Parthians ending before 37 weeks may be due to several factors, but the role that the periodontal disease and infection during pregnancy is vital knowledge to prevent the high morbidity and mortality caused by Premature children, the purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between periodontal disease and Pre term birth in women between 22 and 35 years old, in immediate postpartum, assisted in the Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Isidro Ayora, therefore after Mother signed the Informed consent, continued to investigate their history Clinic to discard other factors that might can cause preterm birth, the age of the infant was observed on the newborn card, only where took children that born before 37 weeks, after on the periodontal examination was used the Community Periodontal Index, analyzing the presence of periodontal disease, and type of periodontal disease that the mother has, as results was performed to 102 observed mothers, 93 (91.17%) had some form of periodontal disease, the principal disease that found was gingivitis (65.7%), in this research the amount of mothers that atended to a dental visit during pregnancy was also studied, found that only 55.9% of pregnant women had dental checkup during pregnancy, there is enough statistical evidence to say that there is a relationship between the presence of the disease and dental checkup, just as it was shown that there is not enough evidence that there is a relationship between the presence of periodontal disease and the type of premature.en
