The present degree thesis corresponds to the review and analysis of the literature on the use of bioremediation methodologies in the treatment of oily sewage sludge. Papers presenting results of field and laboratory research, carried out in Ecuador and other countries of the world, were reviewed. Studies that used techniques such as composting and landfarming; and strategies such as bioaugmentation and biostimulation. In addition, the use of different genera of bacteria and fungi in the degradation of hydrocarbon contaminants was explored. Comparison parameters were defined in relation to the efficiency of contaminant removal, the time taken for the biological remediation process. Taking into account the initial concentrations of TPHs and the addition of structuring materials In addition, an analysis was made through the methodologies used in bioremediation and a comparison between genus of microorganisms (hogs and bacteria). Finally, a projection of future development of biological methodologies in sludge treatment was made, based on generation volumes and their costs per m3. Among the 13 studies analyzed, the most used technique for the biological treatment of oily sewage sludge in the field was composting with 46 percent, followed by landfarming with 23 percent, while laboratory experiments represent 31 percent, where bioaugmentation and biostimulation strategies are applied. Finally, based on the results presented, bacteria are more efficient in the degradation of TPHs.en
