| dc.description | Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are a fundamental pillar in the economy of most countries. Because of this, there was a need to carry out an investigation based on a literature review of 31 articles published around the world. The articles explored firms levels of implementation of information and communication technologies (ICTs), and how ICTs relate to supply chain flexibility (SCF) and businesses management. Additionally, survey methodologies and a case study were applied to complement the information from the literature review, and propose improvements in order for PYMES in Quito to recognize the benefits of implementing ICTs. Also as a result of this investigation, businesses will be able to adapt to unexpected changes efficiently, and manage the supply chain and its processes. From the literary review, the following hypothesis was raised: "ICTs are directly related to Flexibility and the optimization of the processes covered by Supply Chain Management in manufacturing SMEs". During the development of the research, problems were found that prevent SMEs from implementing technologies, including the lack of resources and knowledge. Despite this, and thanks to the methodologies used, it was possible to determine that the benefits of implementing ICTs are significant since they provide sustainable competitive advantages that allow expanding markets, always prioritizing the client and meeting their needs. Finally, it was concluded that ICTs facilitate planning, and communication with stakeholders improves considerably. Consequently, information is transmitted in real time, making decision-making efficient, thus demonstrating that supply chain processes can be most optimized through the implementation of technologies. | en |
