dc.descriptionNeonicotinoids are synthetic insecticides widely used in agriculture that have been shown to be capable of generating lethal and sublethal effects in off-target organisms, due to the mechanism responsible for their insecticidal action, in which they interact with nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This study presents an in vitro evaluation of the cytotoxicity and of the possible synergistic effects of the neonicotinoids acetamiprid, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam in the human neuroblastoma cell line SH-SY5Y. The results showed that there is a dose-dependent relationship between the toxicity of the compounds and the affectation of the cells, where the concentrations of 2 and 4 millimeters were the ones that generated the greatest decrease in the number of cells. Furthermore, the synergistic behavior of the compounds could be determined both at 1 millimeter and at 2 millimeters. The cytotoxicity of the compounds could be related to an affectation in the initial processes of neurodevelopment.en
