OBJECTIVE: To establish the impact of physical activity on hypothyroidism in the people of the Metropolitan District of Quito during 2017. METHODS: This is an observational, cross-sectional, retrospective study reviewing data from the "Salud al Paso" program. The number of people presenting with hypothyroidism Disease and of those who perform Physical Activity at a general level and by zonal districts were calculated. The association between the variable Physical Activity, hypothyroidism disease and the covariables through Chi2 was also analyzed. Finally, the "odd ratios" was calculated through a multiple regression. The variables analyzed were physical activity, cerebrovascular disease, age, gender, BMI, tobacco, alcohol, education level and zonal districts. RESULTS: Two thousand eight hundred fifty-three participants have hypothyroidism (5 percent), four hundred thirty-six resided in zone 6 (0.76 percent). The Chi2 test determined a significant association between hypothyroidism, and all the variables of the present study (p 0.001). Multiple regression found significant associations with risk factors for the hypothyroid variables (CI: 1,206-1,586; p 0.001) and parish (CI: 1,049-1,723; p 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of hypothyroid disease in this study was 5.00 percent. District 6 was the area with the highest number of cases (0.76 percent), the Chi2 test determined a significant relationship between hypothyroid disease with age, BMI, education and the zonal district. The main risk factor in this study was the zonal variable district.en
