Introduction. - Currently, the use of fixed prostheses has become increasingly common, accompanied by their poor planning, it is for this reason that this research has focused on the analysis of the use of fixed prosthesis and its possible complications such as the gingival recession that could be associated with other problems in the future by way of root caries, dental sensitivity, accumulation of bacterial plaque, causing serious aesthetic problems in the patient. Therefore, it is very important to plan each of the procedures that will be performed on the patient, learn about habits and other problems that will alter dental treatment at any time. Objective. - This study tries to demonstrate the prevalence of gingival recession according to Cairo (2011) that was manifested in patients with fixed prostheses who attended the Dental Clinic of the University of the Americas. Material and methods. - This research is observational, cross-sectional, it was carried out at the Dental Clinic of the University of the Americas. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were taken into account, where it was observed if the patient has a fixed prosthesis, in addition to examining the presence of gingival recession in these dental pieces, in order to subsequently analyze the possible causes of it. Results - Several results were obtained. The most common recession present in dental pieces was RT1 according to Cairo, making it clear that most people perform a tooth brushing with mixed movements (horizontal, vertical and circular movements), however, horizontal brushing is the one with the highest percentage of RT1 involvement presents, adding to this patients perform intense pressure with hard dental bristles when brushing their teeth. In the investigation, bruxism was also an important part of the factors that caused the gingival recession. Of course, everything goes hand in hand with the design and planning of dental treatment.en
