dc.description | Different economic variables can generate economic growth. For example, the increase of productive capacity through the investment made by firms. However, the spending operations carried out by the government may discourage the increase in private investment. The crowding-out effect is the decrease in private investment because of an increase in public spending. This research tests the hypothesis that the crowding-out effect existed in the Ecuadorian economy during the period 1965 - 2015. The methodology used to test the hypothesis is an econometric Vector Autoregression model (VAR) with four endogenous variables and three exogenous. The data was obtained from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE). It was found that there is weak evidence of a crowding-out effect during the period analyzed. In addition, it was found that the increase in real interest rate does not affect private investment decisions in Ecuador. | en |
