dc.descriptionPlacentation is a vitall process during the formation of the fetus, the understanding of this process in placental mammals and their differences with the processes in non-placental mammals are a key knowledge to solve various problems surrounding a defective placentation. The possible role of endogenous retroviruses in the placentation that face the mothers immune system has been established. The invasion of the placenta gives rise to the immune response of the mother to a strange body inside. This organ undergoes various morphological changes in only 9 months, this adaptive capacity of the placenta seems to be influenced by the presence of retroelements such as retroviruses. This organ evolves within a co-evolutionary arms race between the mother and the fetus, apparently the adaptive capacity of the placenta is highly influenced by the presence of retroelements such as retroviruses. The placenta is an organ that presents an unusual mechanism of parasitism by invading the uterus of the mother. Elements of viral origin immersed in this process have already been reported, an example are the placental-specific glycoproteins with fusogenic capacity known as syncytin. The viral origin of these proteins differs between placental mammals and several studies have already established the lineage specificity of endogenous retroviruses (ERVS). The high number of retroelements present in different genomes make it necessary to find efficient analysis methods in time and resources. The objective of this study was to find endogenous retroviruses immersed in the placentation, using retroviral detection programs that allowed the analysis of 39 mammalian genomes for later comparison. To this end, a total of 4728 complete retroviral sequences have been detected. The retroviral elements were grouped by orthology, finding a relationship between nearby host species and the orthology groups. This suggests an insertion in a common ancestor and its subsequent incorporation into the host's genome, as well as the possible function of said sequence as it is not silenced like most of the retroviral elements. To verify this, some of the groups obtained were analyzed, for which the position in the genome of the retroviral elements and their proximity to genes previously reported in placentation was determined. We found 5 placental genes that could be related to retroviral activity.en
