dc.description | Parents are considered the main source of information for their children; therefore, their education is important to assess the oral health status of children in society. Objective: To assess the level of knowledge of parents and their relationship with the oral health status of pediatric patients who attended the Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of UDLA. Method: The sample consisted of 67 parents with their respective children, a survey was conducted by the parents in order to collect information of the level of knowledge about eating habits. The oral health status was determined by an epidemiological index; DMFT in children from 5 to 14 years of age. The data were analyzed statistically through the Chi Square, Anova and T-student tests. Results: It was evidenced that the level of knowledge of the parents was low in 17.9%, medium in 67.2%, and high in 14.9%. As for the DMFT index, this was high in all age ranges, from 5, 6 to 12 and 13 to 14 years. Conclusions: A significant relationship was found between parent’s knowledge level and children's oral health status, due to parents have a poor level of knowledge and children have a high caries index. | en |
