dc.description | Oral habits are an acquired practice, caused by the continuous repetition of a succession of events that have the purpose of appeasing an emotional shortage. It is necessary to know that a malocclusion in ages of 7 to 10 years associated with a harmful oral habit becomes determinant for poor oral health, as well as three indispensable factors: Frequency, Duration, Intensity. As a result of this, it causes the child in the stages of development and growth to obtain certain specific modifications in the occlusion and in the bone and facial tissues. The objective of this study is to establish the prevalence and association that exists between the harmful oral habit and dental malocclusions in children from 7 to 10 years old. The present investigation is of a descriptive and cross-sectional type, a sample of 120 children was evaluated, which met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the data were collected through a clinical examination carried out on children in schools December 6 and Great Britain from the city of Quito. As a result, the most frequent habit is labial suction, followed by onychophagia; whereas the most common malocclusion was the rectus terminal plane in children 7- 8 years of age. | en |
