dc.description | The infectious diseases like Swollen Head Syndrome (SHS), are some of the main concerns in poultry, because of their productive and economic negative consequences. To mitigate their effects, the use of natural food additives with immunomodulatory capacity has been proposed, which are defined as substances that stimulate, suppress or modulate the elements of the immune system. Spray dried bovine plasma (SDBP) and shrimp hydrolysate (SH) are immunomodulators that haven’t been greatly studied in aviculture. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate the immunomodulatory effect of these products on the SHS, the components of the immune system and their influence in the zootechnical parameters of broilers. To achieve that, 1500 broilers were raised and challenged with reused litter and without vaccination against Avian pneumovirus (APV). The birds in dependence of the treatment were fed for 42 days with 5 different types of diets. A corn-soy based basal diet and basal diets that were added SDBP or SH in 2 dosing strategies (E1 and E2). In the first week, the SDBP in E2 avoided the drastic drop of the maternal antibodies against APV and produced better white blood cells percentages. In week 6, similar white blood cells percentages results were witnessed with SDBP in E1, SDBP in E2 and SH in E1. The SDBP in E2 generated better performance than the control group in all the fattening cycle, and the SH in E2 produced the same effect of the control group. There wasn’t a significant effectof the treatments on the morphometric index values and the mortality rate. Tosum up, the inclusion of SDBP in E2 on broilers diet has a more evident immunomodulatory effect in white blood cells and maternal antibodies without vaccination and has a positively effect in the animal performance. | en |
