dc.description | Western world has long benefited by products highly rated in world markets and developed through traditional knowledge evolved by indigenous communities. These products have been developed directly from access to genetic resources. Most of the time, indigenous communities haven't received any benefits originated by the exploitation, nor have been recognized as the owners of the traditional knowledge through which access to genetic resources has been granted. It is therefore questioned if our actual intellectual property regime is able to protect traditional knowledge, or if it is necessary to develop a sun; general protection regime. Interactional Organizations have recognized the rights of indigenous peoples and communities through conventions and declarations. Among this rights it has been recognized the indigenous communities' ownership over their traditional knowledge. It is in this sense that there has been an important doctrinarian development though working groups and committees organized by major interactional organizations involved in intellectual property protection. | en |
