Descripción : | Introduction: The nursing professional from an ideological perspective seeks patient safety, considering as a primary point the compliance with the application of informed consent to surgical patients, respecting the regulations and the right to information. Although informed consent has its legal roots with the Nuremberg Code that made explicit reference to the voluntary consent subject, it was not until 1964 that the Declaration of Helsinki was formulated and 1966 that W.H. Stewart, will establish the requirement of informed consent, and will seriously consider this ethical principle in medical interventions. In Ecuador it is stipulated in art. 362 of the Constitution that health services shall be safe, of quality and warmth, and shall guarantee informed consent, access to information and confidentiality of patient information (Law Second Section: Health, 2008). Objective: To determine the characteristics of application of informed consent to adult surgical patients in the surgery service of the General Teaching Hospital of Calderón and to propose strategies to improve the quality of the process. Methods: the type of study is quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional, as well as surveys of health personnel and patients. The information obtained will be analyzed statistically to develop a proposal that strengthens the compliance of the process. Results: A quantitative analysis will be made about the application of informed consent that allows identifying the strengths and weaknesses in the application process. Conclusion: The timely and efficient application of informed consent to surgical patients guarantees the right to information and their safety. |
