Descripción : Canton Mejía is considered the “first dairy basin of the country” for the levels and specialization in dairy production, thanks to its good geographical location, the milk produced in the canton, is processed by important dairy plants and also by small family businesses, that produce mainly cheeses and other derivatives that are commercialized within the canton and even in more distant places. The level of influence it has in the market, makes it necessary to consider the quality and safety of the product that is distributed, particularly the presence of antibiotic residues that are used in common livestock practice. The present descriptive observational analytical study considered the presence of antibiotics in raw milk produced within the Mejía Canton that is intended for human consumption. 40 samples were collected in 8 collection centers and processing plants. The samples were taken following the protocol established by AGROCALIDAD and analyzed with a TRISENSOR test strip that detects three families of antibiotics: beta-lactams, tetracyclines and sulfonamides. The samples that were not negative were analyzed by the laboratory. Descriptive statistical analyzes and frequency tables were used to validate the data. 15 percent positive samples were observed with the test strip and 7.5 percent positive samples analyzed in the laboratory. Of all the positive samples, only one family of antibiotics was found, this being the family of beta-lactam antibiotics. Among the Confidence Intervals we have 0.042 [0.007-0.15] 95 percent CI, for positive samples. The result for the Fisher test that relates the place with the presence of antibiotics was 0.886 to 95 percent. Between the confidence intervals we have to 95 percent. The presence of antibiotics has no predilection for specific sites, with only betalactam antibiotics appearing.
