dc.description | The origin of the Chachis is still a matter of discussion. There are those who affirm that they are originally from the East, others who are detachments of tribes of Colombia. However, all agree, starting from their own tradition, to locate them in Ibarra before their descent to the coast. According to the version that we were able to collect in the Cayapas River, the first inhabitants of this town saw in Quito. After having remained a long time in the city where Atahualpa was born, they heard that white and bearded men were approaching, that they were not coming in peace, but that they had been conquering, that they had invaded the land where they had been born, retreating towards the North. They decided then Their first walk ended in Ibarra, where they made a big city that had a big church with a bell. But the news was increasingly alarming. The Spaniards "treated people badly, burned houses, stole what they found, raped women. The alternative, which will be a constant in the Chachi people, was presented clearly: we should flee as far as possible.
| es_ES |
