| Descripción : | With the coming to power of the leader of Revolución Ciudadana, Rafael Correa, the nation underwent a 360 ° turn to implement a new political system, the so-called XXIst Century Socialism, the same one that had as an aim to abolish the liberal system that governed the country. Reason why, laws, codes were reformed and, in addition, new regulations were created as the new Communication Law, that grant broad powers to the executive over all the powers of the State. Considering that the Communication Law gave rise to the controversy between the Government and private media, the same that revolves around the limitation of freedom of expression and press by the norm, which contains articles contrary to the constitution and international standards. For this reason the present analysis deals with the state institutions with respect to private media at two moments, before and after the issuance of the Law. In the same way, the investigation is based on a practical case, where the Superintendence of Communication (SUPERCOM) imposes an economic sanction on the newspaper La Hora. Bearing in mind that this analysis is based on the theoretical contributions of Schudson and Waisbord. |
