| Descripción : | The high Andean rivers offer important water and ecosystem services for populations that live in their basins. The objective of this research was to evaluate the relationship between the macroinvertebrates community with environmental quality of the rivers, affected by changes in land use in the urban area of Quito, within the Guayllabamba basin. The study was carried out through sampling of macroinvertebrates and environmental aspects of rivers such as physicochemical water characteristics and hydromorpholigical analysis. In addition, the change in land use was analyzed through satellite images. It was found that there is a loss of biodiversity and ecological degradation in the rivers of urban areas probably due to the lack of wastewater treatment of the city that is discharged at Pita, San Pedro, Machángara and Monjas rivers. |
