Descripción : The present study had as objective the characterization of cystic lesions in the liver present in pigs slaughtered in the Municipal Clearing Center of Cayambe Canton, province of Pichincha; during the months of March and April of 2017; with the purpose of determining the causal agent of each cystic lesion under study. The lesions that this research focuses on are the cysts, defined as a closed bladder that contains fluid or air inside it (MedlinePlus, 2017, p.1). With respect to the characterization of injuries, the "decision tree" methodology was used so that in a graphic, analytical and organized way the inspection study could be carried out in camal. The decision tree consisted of: differentiating whether the present lesion is of the fibrous, abscessive or cystic type, from each liver data was taken referring to: sex, origin, productive stage and the name of the introducer to whom this belongs, according to the respective mobilization guide. Of the lesions, variables such as size, color, location and causal agent involved were taken into account and cytology and histology tests were made for the diagnosis. During the study, a population of one hundred and seven pigs of indeterminate race that entered the slaughtering center was presented; of which twenty-seven of them were sampled for having presented cystic lesions on the surface and hepatic parenchyma. The pathologies diagnosed were: hydatidosis 70.37 por ciento, hepatic cysticercosis 11.11 percent, lymphosarcoma 11.11 percent, adenoma 7.40 percent and non-parasitic cysts 7.40 por ciento Thanks to this research it was demonstrated that the most frequent cystic lesions were of parasitic origin. Therefore, control measures should be taken in this regard. The economic loss generated by confiscation of pig livers was 127.20 US dollars during the period under study period.
