Resumen : La erupción es un proceso fisiológico, por el cual los dientes se desplazan desde su posición inicial en los maxilares hasta su posición en boca…
Descripción : Tooth eruption is a physiological process; by which it moves from its initial position in the jaws to its position in the mouth. The main function of the canines is the desoclusion of the teeth to perform the lateralities due to their large crownroot size, and this type of desoclusion decreases muscle activity. Its normal eruption period ranges between the age of 10 to 13 years. The objective of this study was to compare the age of eruption of permanent canines in two zones (urban-rural) in the province of Chimborazo on children of 10 and 13 years of age, to identify the presence of eruption or the absence of the permanent canine in relation to age and observe the presence or absence of space for the eruption of the permanent canine. For which a small campaign of promotion, education and prevention of Oral Health was carried out; to the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th-grade students of basic education of the different Educational Units of the study. 300 patients were chosen according to the inclusion criteria; the data collection instrument was used, applying the clinical observation of the oral cavity (presence of canines), in a clean environment, using all the biosafety norms, the diagnostic techniques of visual inspection and palpation were performed, to determine the presence or absence of permanent canines, as well as the lack or presence of space for their normal eruption. The results obtained reveal that in the urban area: 36 children of 9 years do not present any permanent canine and correspond to 78.3% and 10 children of 10 years do not present any permanent canines and are 31.3%. Rural area: 52 children of 9 years do not present any permanent canines and correspond to 91.2%, 19 children of 10 years do not present any permanent canine and are 67.9%. It was also found that in the zones (urbanrural) there were similar percentages in relation to space (without space-with space) with respect to the permanent canine. Through this work, we conclude that at the age of 9 there is a slight delay in the eruption of the permanent canine in the rural area this can be due to several factors: hormonal, endocrine, nutritional and malnutrition that exists in poor areas of our country.
