dc.descriptionThis paper analyzes the recognition level of community democracy in the Ecuadorian constitution as an alternative to the traditional democratic model, taking as reference the case of the indigenous communities in Cotacachi and Otavalo (Imbabura province). The main element to be analyzed is the level of reach, practice and recognition of community democracy as well as the implementation of certain legal mechanisms, recognized in the constitution. Furthermore, the ways of social and political life and relations that exists in it are analyzed. Finally, I examine the degree of community democracy in afore mentioned communities and the level of identification by its actors.en
