| Descripción : | Objectives: The purpose of this study, executed at the Center of Dental Care of the Universidad de las Americas in Quito, was to compare the self-esteems level related to dental alterations in women between 30- 65 years old and identify which factor (color, shape, size, position) that worries them the most. Materials and Methods: 15 questions of PIDAQ (Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire) were chosen and translated from English to Spanish. This version of the questionnaire was validated by the correcting tutor and applied to 160 women (92 aged between 30-49 and 68 between 50-65 years old. Results: The results showed that for both age groups the alterations in the smile do not cause self-esteem decrease and that tooth color is the most important factor. Conclusions: Women aged 30-49 are less satisfied with the appearance of their teeth than those aged 50-65 years, however, the results of the research do not confirm that younger group has less self-esteem, but for both groups, this situation is irrelevant and does not cause social and psychological changes |
