Resumen : La grabación de una batería es uno de los procesos más complejos dentro del proceso de producción…
Descripción : Drum recording is one of the most complex processes in music production. The sound of every element of a drumkit (kick, snare, cymbals, toms) has to be professionally treated in order to be perceived properly. In order to get a faithful recording, there are some elements to be considered, for instance, the recording room, the microphones that are being used, the placement of these microphones, among other factors. A professional recording studio generally has two kinds of rooms. Each room is created for a different function. Each one of these rooms is acoustically treated for their purpose. Every studio has a big number of microphones and a lot of variety, each microphone has a different cost depending on how it was constructed. The price of a microphone for a professional studio can go from $200 to $20.000. However, home studios normally have one room, a computer and two microphones. With this in mind, the purpose of this paper was to establish a number of steps to help every musician or producer with a home studio, to get a drum recording with a limited number of microphones and without a room that has an acoustic treatment. In other words, this paper contributed with an editing process in order to turn a stereo drum track recorded with up to three microphones into a multitrack for the mix. The investigation field on this paper is production. Thus, the final product was a paper and a set of the recording tracks of one, two and three microphones, along with their edit and mix sessions.
