| dc.description | Background: To evaluate the effectiveness of the hygienic phase of periodontal treatment by analyzing changes in salivaly pH levels in patients with chronic periodontitis who are treated at the UDLA Integral Dentistry Clinic. Materials and methods: Forty patients were grouped according to their periodontal status according to PSR. Each group consisted of 20 patients as a control group (PSR: 0.1 and 2) 20 patients as a study group (PSR: 3 and 4). The saliva was collected and the initial pH value was recorded before treatment and final pH after the treatment. A Hanna HI98103 digital pH meter was used to measure the ph. For statistical analysis, frequency analysis and statistical significance test were used. Results: The final pH variation of patients in the control group and study group after treatment had an average closeness of 0.187 and 0.092 respectively, which showed that the study group had an average closeness greater than neutrality Thant patients in the control group. In the salivary pH measurement, a variation was observed in patients in the control group who went from an average pH of 7.08 to 7.19 and patients in the group with periodontitis averaging 7.10 to 7.09 after treatment. Conclusion: The optimal conditions for the teeth and perdiodontium to remain healthy are at a neutral pH therefore the objective of periodontal treatment after a correct elimination of possible etiological factors should be to bring salivary pH as close as possible to neutrality. | en |
