Descripción : Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is a medicinal plant that for its multiple properties is used in the field of dentistry as mouthwash, especially to reduce gingival inflammation and for people with limited economic resources who do not have the possibility of using mouthwash in their daily oral hygiene. The lack of culture, education, and importance of parents on oral health care causes children to follow their behavior. This is why a chamomilla-based mouthwash was performed to provide extra help to improve oral health. Objective: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of a chamomilla-based mouthwash in children aged 10 to 12 years with gingivitis. Materials and Methods: We identified 90 children (10 to 12 years old) at the Daniel Enrique Proaño School who presented gingivitis using the Gingival Index of Loe and Silness. In addition, the quality of oral hygiene was evaluated using the OLeary. We proceeded to divide into 3 groups of 30 randomly. Group A, after toothbrushing, was carried out with a mouthwash with chamomile extract (10 percent glycerin and 0.8 percent chamomile fever extract). A placebo effect (distilled water and mint-green staining) was applied to group B, after dental brushing. In group C, only brushing technique is taught. Results: Chamomilla-based mouthwash is effective in reducing bacterial plaque and gingivitis compared to the placebo effect and dental brushing. The data obtained showed significant differences between the first and third control for 15 days. Importance should be given to prevention since having a correct technique of brushing and adding the help of dental aids such as natural mouthwashes, the child can avoid future complications such as gingivitis.
