Descripción : The biological treatment most used worldwide is the activated sludges, however has some limitations, so we are looking for an alternative option. The proposed research has the objective to compare the efficiency of two biological treatments in the removing of organic components in domestic wastewater formulated. For this, 15 continuous bioreactors were built in laboratory scale, five of them represented a negative control (water), five a positive control (activated sludge) and five the experimental treatment (encapsulated microorganisms), they were evaluated during eight weeks. The consortium of microorganisms used for the mixed liquor of activated sludge and the encapsulation was isolated from the Machángara River in the city of Quito. During the eight weeks the following parameters were evaluated: chemical oxygen demand, biological oxygen demand, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, iron, phosphates, total nitrogen, nitrites, nitrates, manganese and sulphates. The formulated wastewater served as power supply was administrated daily to all reactors and had the following concentrations: 613,8 mg/L of DQO, 398,9 mg/L of DBO, 379,4 mg/L of STD, 4,5 mg/L of OD, 236,6 NTU of turbidity, 2,72 mg/L of iron, 28,1 mg/L de phosphates, 25,8 mg/L of NT, 52,75 mg/L of nitrites, 6,5 mg/L of nitrates, 0,154 mg/L of manganese and 64,25 mg/L of sulphates. Passed the eight weeks of treatment was obtained that the biological treatment of encapsulated microorganisms was more efficient in the removal of 10 parameters evaluated against the activated sludges which had greater removal of iron and the phosphorus hadn´t remove in any treatment, we can say that the difference in the removing parameters is minimal. That is, the treatment of encapsulated microorganisms had an efficiency of 83.33% versus 8.33% of activated sludges in the remowing of all parameters evaluated. About the time, the greater removal of all parameters occurred during the first three weeks of treatment, the following weeks removal existed, but it wasn’t significant as in the initial period.
