Descripción : The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of maxillary canines retention in patients treated in the surgery area at Club De Leones Quito Central during the period January- December 2015 In preparing this descriptive, observational and retrospective research, an analysis was conducted with a sample of 44 panoramic radiographs (convenience sample) which met the criteria for inclusion in this study. Materials and Methods: The information in this study was obtained through a data collection sheet, which included variables such as age, gender, status, position and root development. Results: The results of this study showed that within the sample, 46% are aged between 14 to 17 and 18 to 24, while 8% at age 25 to 30 years. Regarding gender, the female gender predominated. This sample was divided it into two groups: unilateral and bilateral retention. In patients with unilateral restraint has been established that a total of 18 patients with retention of the tooth number 13, while the tooth number 23 there are 19 patients. Moreover, a total of 7 patients who had bilateral retention were determined; for a total of 51 canines studied. As part of the classification, it can be considered that in the male population, dominated the situation II and III, within the part number 13. As well, the prevailing distohorizontal position and status of incomplete root. While the vertical position for the tooth number 23, most men had a situation II, with frequent and distoangular; likewise a predominance of straight and curved root was found. On the contrary, the female population presented situation II in the tooth number 13, being much larger number of canine teeth and mesioangular vertical position, and more frequent incomplete root formation. In the tooth number 23 was more common situation II, and mesioangular vertical position. With respect to the root state, he prevailed incomplete root formation.
